House Rules

In a shop with many tracking artists, you may want to set up house rules that are shared among all artists. You can do that by creating house rules in the file synthia_house_rules.sia in the syntheyes application folder, and/or in your own personal syntheyes user folder. The file can be periodically copied around to all users, or your system administrator can set up network file links.

Use write some rules to a file to create the file, such as

write rules created today to `/tmp/new_synthia_house_rules.sia`

The rules should not appear to be created by any specific person, but by the relevant organization. (This uses context-related rules that aren't covered here.)

define a company named "my vfx company".

// create 3 new rules

make the last 3 rules created by my vfx company. write the last 3 rules to `/tmp/my_vfx_rules.sia`.

Exercise: try the example just given.

Rules written to a file by Synthia will be written in a format suited for computers rather than people. A change to the house rules will trigger a rebuild of the synthia.xml file.
